San Diego police fatally shoot man during traffic stop in Barrio Logan [Breaking]
At least one San Diego police officer fatally shot a 37-year-old man during a traffic stop in Barrio Logan late Friday night, sheriff’s officials said.Sheriff’s officials said the driver briefly sped off for about two blocks before pulling over near Chicano Park. A man got out of the vehicle’s driver’s seat with a handgun, officials said, and an unknown number of officers opened fire.The man and the handgun fell to the ground, according to the department.
Officers then assisted the man, and paramedics took him to a hospital where he died. The man has been identified, but his name won’t be released until his family has been notified. The Sheriff’s Department will investigate the incident under a countywide protocol that ensures no law enforcement agency investigates its own police shootings. Officials said there is body-worn camera footage of the incident.
