Deal cements nonprofit as city’s animal control provider, replacing county
Those costs would cover buying vehicles, securing a site to house animals and hiring and training staff, such as veterinarians and animal control officers.A new bill supported by the San Diego Humane Society aims to attract veterinarians to underserved California communities with an offer of student debt relief.
“At this time, city staff do not have the expertise or experience, required training or certifications to develop and administer a comprehensive in-house animal services program,” city officials said in a report on the analysis. Humane Society officials say the city is paying for high-level animal control, including the non-profit’s commitment to not euthanizing any healthy or treatable animals.“The Humane Society has demonstrated its ability to provide city residents with exceptional service, particularly when it comes to community engagement, education, quality of care and services for at-risk communities,” city officials said.
