The Parks and Recreation department is hosting a hiring fair 9-11 a.m. Saturday to search for candidates to fill about 100 seasonal and year-round pool guard positions for the city's 15 swimming pool facilities.
With summer fast approaching, San Diego is looking to hire about 100 lifeguards at 15 different swimming pools — and teach possible future candidates how to swim.
The Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a hiring fair 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Clairemont Pool, located at 3600 Clairemont Dr., for eligible applicants. “We are looking for about 100 more pool lifeguards to join our ranks,” said aquatics district manager Nicole McNeil. “This is a great opportunity to take on a job that is not only fun but serves the community by ensuring the safety of our aquatics patrons.”To encourage more applicants, candidates — who must be 16 or older — do not need to be certified prior to applying. They will be trained and receive the required certifications once hired.
Aquatic pool guard — both part- and full-time — and swimming pool manager positions are included in San Diego’s largest employee union, the San Diego Municipal Employees Association, part of a tentative labor agreement with the city that would give city workersInterested candidates must apply online for a Pool Guard I or II position before attending a city hiring fair. Another fair is scheduled for 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, at the Allied Gardens Pool, located at 6707 Glenroy St.
