San Diego County just recorded its biggest-ever home sale this week with an oceanfront Del Mar property going for $44.1 million. The home at 2940 Sandy Lane was previously owned by Hollywood real estate developer C.E. Toberman. The sale was off-market and the buyer is a mystery for now, with the seller not saying who bought it and property records hiding the identity.
The property is slightly over one acre and includes a beach house, guesthouse, detached apartment, tennis court and swimming pool. Altogether, it has eight bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms. A corporation tied to descendants of Toberman were the sellers, although there was a court battle over efforts to sell the property. Wendy Fletcher Dyer, one of Toberman's great-grandchildren, led the investment group to sell the property, but her stepmother, Marilyn Fletcher, declined to leave the property.
