Parents and students line up Aug. 10 at Northern Hills Elementary School. It was the first day of classes for North East ISD.SAN ANTONIO — As children return to classes after a summer off, some drivers are slow to get back in the habit of watching for flashing yellow lights in the morning and afternoon that mark schools zones and the more restrictive traffic laws that come with them.
During the first month of the academic year, more drivers received tickets in NEISD than in any other district in San Antonio, according to data obtained from the city of San Antonio. Most citations issued are for speeding in a school zone, which carries a minimum fine of $203 for driving up to 10 mph faster than the posted speed limit, with $5 added for each additional 1 mph — above 10 mph — that a driver exceeds the limit.
