The San Antonio Fire Department responded to a fire around 3 p.m. at a duplex near the 4400 block of Meeks Avenue Monday afternoon.Firefighters have not yet determined a cause, but it does appear that it may have been caused by smoking. There were cigarettes and other smoking materials near the couch.
Chief Hood stated that it appeared that the man was disabled. There was a motorized wheelchair found near the couch and a ramp that led to the front door. Authorities were unable to find a smoking detector in the home. Chief Hood shared that the fire department would check with the neighbors in the area to make sure their smoke detectors are working.
