San Antonio and Bexar County are allocating nearly $43 million for permanent supportive housing for low-income and homeless people.
Billy Calzada/San Antonio Express-NewsSan Antonio and Bexar County are partnering to allocate nearly $43 million, from several funding sources, toward building and renovating affordable housing with on-site support services for low-income and homeless residents.
The complex, called the Commons at Acequia Trails, would include 130 apartments for tenants earning up to 60 percent of the area median income and 70 units for those making up to 30 percent of that amount, as well as a playground and community center. Construction is expected to begin this month and be completed in February 2026.
The first phase of 59 tiny homes and 24 recreational vehicle sites is underway. The second phase will consist of 41 tiny homes, gathering spaces, and a community kitchen, laundry facility and maintenance building, as well as infrastructure for a future third phase with a multifamily development. Construction is anticipated to begin next month and conclude in August 2024.HUD grants San Antonio $14.
