There’s a new feature in the latest Samsung foldable which is a real game changer. I’ve seen it in action and it’s great.
I talked in depth to Samsung personnel about how the pictures and videos compared to a regular camera. They were unanimous that they’d managed to make it as good as the previous camera on the Fold2.There are some riders to this: this is a 4-megapixel sensor, not the 108-megapixel resolution found on some Samsung cameras. This is also not a match for the 20-megapixel camera in the Xioami Mi Mix 4, which also sits behind the panel.
Samsung says this camera has a lens designed to be mostly used for video calls, rather than your best-ever pictures. Even so, Samsung says the pixels are large, which helps to improve picture quality, and certainly the video I saw was decent enough.Samsung told me that by placing the camera underneath the display, rather than having it on the surface of the phone, it actually protects the lens better, for a start.
And I was reminded that although you can use the camera for selfies, a much better way to go is to turn the opened phone around, face the proper rear cameras toward you and let the smaller, outer display show what the camera is seeing, so you can frame your shot properly. Though this doesn’t have the glory of the big screen, it works very well.It’s promising, I’d say.
