they opened up about their gender identity and body image. The singer-songwriter said, "When I saw the words ‘nonbinary’ and ‘genderqueer’ and I read into it and I heard these people speaking, I thought f*ck — that is me."
In Friday's Instagram post, Sam elaborated on their identity but also acknowledged that they're not quite in a place yet to fully articulate how they're feeling. "P.S. I am at no stage just yet to eloquently speak at length about what it means to be non binary but I can’t wait for the day that I am," Sam wrote. "So for now I just want to be VISIBLE and open." They closed the Instagram post by directing fans to activists such as Munroe Bergdorf, ALOK, GLAAD, and more as people and organizations who have been pivotal in bringing awareness to the nonbinary and trans community, and have helped Sam themself find some clarity.
