Ben Dowsett catches up on the on-court action and rumors from Day 1 of Salt Lake City Summer League in Utah.

Utah Jazz's Justin Wright-Foreman guards Memphis Grizzlies' Jevon Carter during the first half of an NBA summer league game Monday, July 1, 2019, in Salt Lake City. News, notes and rumors making the rounds from Day 1 at Salt Lake City Summer League, featuring the Cleveland Cavaliers, Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz:· Lonnie Walker IV, San Antonio’s first-round pick from 2018 , is our early candidate for “too good to be at Summer League.

· San Antonio’s most recent first-round pick, Luka Samanic, has more work in front of him. Outlines of his skill were present, but he also got stuffed at the rim on two different dunk attempts and appeared a bit too slow certain parts of NBA-level pace. The Spurs have plenty of time to be patient with the 19-year-old, though.

· Marques Bolden, an undrafted center out of Duke, may have been the best player on the floor outside Walker. He filled the box score all game in just 21 minutes, finishing with 10 points, eight boards, three steals and two blocks, including a massive stuff on a Samanic dunk attempt.· Yuta Watanabe, who mostly only saw garbage time minutes for Memphis in the NBA last year, is among the early standouts for the Grizzlies in SLC.

Monday in SLC, including 5-of-6 from deep, making the Jazz pay for leaving him open several times. Washburn looks like a sniper at the four-spot, but his advanced age – 27 – means he has to shine like this for longer than this to stick anywhere. Like Watanabe, he saw spot minutes for the Grizzlies’ parent team last year.· This summer will be a fascinating showcase for the Jazz’s open third center spot next year.
