Retired teacher John Burleigh, from Greenock, Inverclyde, leaped into the water on the 16th hole in Rome before making a soggy moped trip to the airport.
A Scots golf fan has told how he became an instant celeb after his Ryder Cup lake jump celebration went viral - but his pals chickened out.
And John was then forced to take a soggy moped ride to collect his wife from the airport - where he was swamped with requests for selfies. Dressed in a light shirt and trousers, he darted right past his golfing heroes and evaded security to leap into the water before emerging with his fists in the air to huge applause.
“I was looking for golf balls but I didn’t find anything. I jumped in with my sunglasses on and came out without them.”He is now enjoying an extended trip in Rome after the arrival of wife Heather, who was stunned to discover what her husband had been up to.
