Ryan Murphy casts MerylStreep, Nicole Kidman & more in Netflix's TheProm adaptation
also reported that Streep is set to star as Broadway diva Dee Dee Allen, who falls out of the Great White Way’s good graces when her musical biography of Eleanor Roosevelt flops. To rehabilitate her public image, she teams up with her co-star Barry Glickman , and fellow actors Angie Dickinson and Trent Oliver , to help a young girl named Emma whose decision to bring her girlfriend Alyssa to her Indiana high school’s prom led to it being cancelled by the bigoted PTA.
Other roles in the film including Key as the Indiana high school’s principal and love interest to Streep’s character, Principal Hawkins, and Awkwafina as the actors’ publicist Ms. Sheldon. While many of the roles have already been set, casting director Alexa Fogel is currently performing a national search to find the young actress to star as Emma.
