Students lived through the pandemic and a faculty strike on their path to graduation.
The actresses’ speech started with a few lines from “Endangered Species” by jazz vocalist Dianne ReevesShe then paid homage toRobeson inspired Ralph to attend Rutgers, she said.
“We need people who have been through something and still have so much to give and share, that’s you,” Ralph said. The New Brunswick campus ceremony conferred degrees on more than half of Rutgers’ total graduates for 2023. The remaining graduates will receive their degrees at the school’s two other commencement ceremonies this week.commencement speaker
Before Sunday’s commencement ceremony began, students gathered outside the stadium, adjusted their caps and gowns, took photos with friends and family, and reminisced on the last four years. Dellas received his degree in mechanical engineering and plans on coming back to Rutgers next year to get his master’s.“During the pandemic it was hard, I stayed on campus although many of my peers, they went back to their country,” said Yan, who is from Nanjing, China.
“I feel like freshmen year I was so nervous because it was a new environment, and then now I feel...I don’t want to graduate,” Chen said.
