George Russell may have to take a grid penalty at some point this season after his engine was destroyed following his DNF at the Australian Grand Prix.
Russell qualified for the race at Albert Park in second place. He got of to a great start by overtaking pole sitter Max Verstappen into Turn one for the lead. On lap seven of the race, Alex Albon crashed out of the Grand Prix. The Yellow flags were shown and Mercedes made the decision to pit Russell.
Things would go from bad to worse for the British driver on lap 18. He was running in fourth at the time before a power unit issue occurred. This would lead to Russell pulling up at the end of the pitlane to retire from the race.
