BREAKING: Royal Mail is being officially investigated over poor delivery performance for the second year running.

Royal Mail could be fined millions after its delivery performance fell well short of official targets for the second year running.

Regulator Ofcom has launched an investigation into the service after finding nearly a quarter of first-class and nearly one in 10 second-class deliveries arrived late over the past 12 months. Thought to be the worst performance since records began in 2007, it follows a stern warning issued after delivery targets were missed last year. But it recently said deliveries were still 'falling well short', warning bosses they could no longer use the pandemic as an 'excuse'.

Ofcom rules say no more than 7% of first-class post should arrive more than one working day after collection, and less than 1.5% of second-class post should arrive past the three-day window.
