“The Queen has been rather hurt by some of Harry’s actions particularly around the time of the wedding,” a source told V.F. “She feels she has done everything to smooth the path for them but this could well be the last straw”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not consult the Queen before releasing Wednesday’s bombshell statement that they are stepping down as senior members of the royal family.
The move has led to a serious rift within the family, with aides admitting that they were blindsided by the statement and that there was a “great sense of disappointment” over the Sussexes’ decision to make the “early stage”plans public. Harry and Meghan are not understood to want to relinquish their royal titles and will continue to be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. However they have also said they plan to be financially independent. If they plan to carry out commercial work it could conflict with their royal roles and duties, potentially posing problems in the future.
