Both lanes were open by 10 a.m. Sunday near Ayers Garage and Body Shop, but a section of the road north of there was a single lane open to alternating traffic Sunday morning due to continued work along the roadside.
Torrential rains July 16 led to flash flooding and a stream breeching a berm in the nearby Beaver Brook Wildlife Management Area. The resulting landslide sent water, dirt, stones and brush onto Route 46 in Knowlton Township. Passing drivers will see New Jersey transportation department crews still working to repair the damage.and mud, and storm damage displaced about 100 people in Warren County, officials said.
The NJDOT said it took immediate action to redirect the flow of water down Brookside Avenue to protect adjacent property owners from further damage. A temporary access road was built into the wildlife area to repair the berm, unstable trees were removed from the mountainside, and more than 130 truckloads of debris, about 2,600 tons of material, were hauled away, the NJDOT said.
