Rod Stewart says being knighted by Prince William was 'proudest day of his life'

Sir Rod was knighted as part of the 2016 Birthday Honours for services to music and charity.

The Maggie May singer, 78, was knighted in 2016 by William as part of the Birthday Honours for "services to music and charity". Sir Rod was previously appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2007 New Year Honours for services to music.

Sir Rod has a close bond with the Royal Family and even performed at the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022, as well as at King Charles' 60th birthday, when he was then Prince of Wales. He shared: "She has been so much a part of my life, she’s almost like a sister. She has always been in the background."
