One day after two dozen wildfires scorched at least 50 miles of land in Rockland County, an investigation is just beginning. alecia__reid reports.
Small pockets of fire continued burning overnight, but firefighters said Saturday they have it under control.
The intense flames melted the siding on four homes and destroyed two sheds and other property, including fences and vehicles.One woman told CBS2 her husband uses an oxygen tank, and Friday's blaze was too close of a call. Helicopters dropped buckets of water from the air and firefighters used hoses on the ground, all to keep properties safe.Local officials speculate that a CSX train sparked along 15 miles of track, starting fires that spread to nearby fields, including a bird sanctuary.
