Rockets general manager Rafael Stone said he is confident on where team is in rebuilding after trade deadline.MIAMI — In a telling reaction to the trade deadline moves he made, when asked if the Rockets improved on Thursday, Rockets general manager Rafael Stone quickly pivoted to the improvements planned — and the positioning he considered strengthened — with the two deals he completed.
But the deals were done to improve the first-round draft pick the Rockets had from Milwaukee, allowing them to swap it for the Clippers or Thunder pick and for cap room next summer.“We're trying to build something, and I do think we improved the team, at least from the perspective of what we're trying to do,” Stone said. “Eric Gordon is a really good basketball player, and he plays basketball, to me, the way it's supposed to be played.
That might not help a team that goes into Friday’s game with the worst record, 13-42, in the NBA. But the Rockets had been rebuilding in a three-year plan with the goal of get what they did not have when the process of collecting what they did not have at the time; first-round draft picks, young talent and cap room.
