Stephen Hughes has 18 previous convictions for 49 offences
An "opportunistic" robber jumped into a parked Amazon van and made off with more than a hundred packages - which were then swiped by his mates.
At Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, September 18, prosecutor Chris Taylor said Hughes, who has 18 convictions for 49 offences, was identified as the robber from CCTV. He was arrested at his home on July 19, when police also found the driver's passport, debit card and bag stashed in his bedroom. "He met a woman; she has two children, a son and a daughter. The defendant became very close and very supportive to her daughter. He was a real source of support to her. She was diagnosed with a serious cancer and sadly... in June 2022 she passed away. The defendant was holding her hand when she passed away."
He added that Hughes, of Primrose Drive, Huyton, had been a victim of "cuckooing" by other drug users, who used his property to take drugs, and that these people had helped themselves to the 102 stolen Amazon packages.
