After a fender-bender in a New Jersey neighborhood, a driver allegedly chased a pedestrian onto a lawn and ran her over with his car at least three times before fleeing.
The attack was set off by an encounter around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on a narrow residential street in Elizabeth. The man, apparently attempting to circumvent a traffic jam, was backing up his Mitsubishi SUV so he could turn onto a side street. He reversed into the woman’s car, causing minor damage. Surveillance video from a neighbor’s home showed what happened next: The man backed up and then drove directly at the woman, jumping the curb and chasing her as she ran across a lawn. She tripped and fell; he ran over her. He then appears to stop and reverse over her. At that point, a school bus drove up and blocked him from backing into the street. He drove forward over the woman one more time and fled.
