Riverdale season 6 images show off the upcoming midseason premiere that will address the events of the explosive season 5 finale.
The CW releases some first-look images of the midseason premiere of Riverdale season 6. The series returns on March 20 after its five-episode"Rivervale" storyline that took place outside of the main canon and saw a crossover with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The new episodes will pick up in the aftermath of the Riverdale season 5 finale. The series stars KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, and Lili Reinhart.
Riverdale, based on the characters of Archie Comics follows a group of teenagers as they uncover the dark secrets of their seemingly innocent town. The series found popularity when it was added to Netflix, giving a sizable bump to its ratings on The CW and allowing it a lengthy run. Riverdale season 6 celebrated its 100 episode milestone in December with the conclusion of the"Rivervale" arc.
Though it's currently unknown how the twists and developments of the"Rivervale" arc will affect Riverdale going forward, audiences will have the new episodes to explain the aftermath of the season 5 finale, questions that went unanswered in the"Rivervale" arc. The show itself is not unfamiliar to odd tangents, with its inspiration from David Lynch's Twin Peaks on full display.
Riverdale is one of many shows on The CW to find success after being added to Netflix, with Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend also seeing bumps in popularity. With network television on the decline, and with the rise of streaming, The CW is smart to allow Netflix to stream its catalog, allowing them to find a larger audience. Along with its connection to Netflix's own Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the connection between the two companies is a profitable one.
