Morty becomes an order of French Toast sticks in a ridiculous new RickandMorty Wendy's ad.
Rick & Morty teams up with Wendy’s for another bizarre breakfast menu commercial. Adult Swim’s sci-fi animated show from co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland is set to return for season 6. And the new Rick and Morty season, Harmon and Roiland promise, will be more fan-pleasing in the way it balances one-off adventures with big canon-altering arcs.
Such promises of course became necessary after Rick and Morty season 5 displeased many fans with the way it played out. Indeed, the divide between critical opinion on the show and fan opinion only seemed to widen with season 5, as reflected by the season’s 95% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes compared to its 56% audience score.
Rick and Morty of course once famously became tied to the fast food chain McDonald’s thanks to their random season 3 shout-out of discontinued Szechuan dipping sauce – a shout-out that led to McDonald’s staging an ill-fated Szechuan promotion. But in truth, McDonald’s never became officially affiliated with Rick and Morty despite their willingness to piggyback on the show’s success.
Wendy’s becoming this deeply tied in with a show as bizarre as Rick and Morty perhaps seems like a strange way to sell French Toast sticks and their other popular breakfast menu items. But the relationship must be working as it’s been ongoing for several years now, and shows no signs of being severed. Wendy’s of course is happy to gain a little cred among the kind of animated TV fans who love the hijinks on Rick and Morty.
