Seemingly without hesitation, Osefo retaliated to the martini melee by calling Thornton a “crater-faced bitch,” a pointed insult that hurt the latter.“It hurts because it’s something that I can’t necessarily do anything about. You immediately start to go into this spiral of, ‘OK, how do I fix it? How do I make sure that I remain mentally strong enough to not allow someone to judge me based off my physical exterior?’” Thornton says of her internal reaction to the affront.
Thornton says the harsh remark was particularly painful given her turbulent childhood, during which she spent an extended period in foster care.“Had I had proper parenting as a teenager, don’t you think someone should have taken me to the dermatologist?” she says, adding that she is doing everything in her power to save her teenage son, Joshua, from an unclear complexion.
