Pearland graduate, ex-Dawson assistant Delrick Brown hired as Oilers' boys basketball coach
Delrick Brown takes over as Pearland's head basketball coach after seven seasons as an assistant at Dawson.PEARLAND — Delrick Brown, a longtime Dawson assistant and former Pearland basketball standout, is the new head basketball coach at Pearland High School, replacing longtime coach Steve Buckelew.
“I’m just excited to help Pearland reach the next level,” Brown said. “I think there are some nice pieces already in place there.Brown inherits an Oilers program which Buckelew has engineered since 1995. In only his third year at the helm, Buckelew guided Pearland to the state tournament. After graduating from Pearland in 1998, Brown played at Centenary College in Shreveport. La., before transferring to St. Edward’s University in Austin, where he graduated.
