Notice a letter from San Diego Community Power lately? That's not junk mail. Many residents will soon be automatically enrolled in the renewable energy service. Opting out is an option.

SAN DIEGO – A change in power will be coming for residents of different cities in and around San Diego.

Starting May 22, the city will begin receiving renewable energy on their meter reader from San Diego Community Power and many residents will be automatically enrolled. Scott Sherman, former city councilmember, joined KUSI’s Jason Austell on “Good Morning San Diego” to discuss details of this change in power.Overall, Sherman is distrustful of the agency as it is run by a board of elected officials just as the San Diego Association of Governments is governed.

SANDAG recently was under fire for an audit that revealed they used hundreds of thousands of taxpayer funds to pay for “questionable” things such as lavish meals. The organization is a not-for-profit energy provider that reinvests revenues into San Diego communities.
