UPDATE: The latest air strike by the Syrian regime has killed at least 23 people in Idlib province
This picture taken on May 22, 2019 shows smoke plumes rising following reported Syrian regime forces' bombardment on the town of Khan Sheikhun in the southern countryside of the rebel-held Idlib province.
The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham alliance, led by Syria's former Al Qaeda affiliate, controls a large part of Idlib province as well as adjacent slivers of Aleppo, Hama and Latakia provinces. The market was crowded with people out and about after breaking the daytime fast observed by Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan.
The ministry said that Syrian militants based in Idlib had also launched a missile attack on Russia's Hmeymim air base on Wednesday, but that their missiles were either shot down or did not reach their target.A militant alliance led by Syria's former Al Qaeda affiliate, Hayat Tahrir al Sham , controls a large part of Idlib province as well as adjacent slivers of Aleppo, Hama and Latakia provinces.
