A Sacramento murderer is the suspect in the prison death last week of his cellmate, a Redwood City man, prison officials say.Ariel Torres, 45, was found unresponsive Wednesday night in his cell at North Kern State Prison, in Delano. He died without regaining consciousness, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said in a news release Friday.Holverstott is five months into a life sentence for the 2019 murder of his 73-year-old father in a Sacramento church parking lot.
Upon the death, Matthew Holverstott reportedly tried to gain control of his father’s assets, worth about $900,000. Torres was two months into a two-year sentence for possession of child pornography. He was arrested in August 2021 at his home in Redwood City’s Friendly Acres neighborhood after Google tipped off law enforcement officials about the uploading of images.
