Bexar County and surrounding areas are under a red flag warning Thursday due to high winds and low humidity in the region. The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for most of South Central Texas, including Bexar County, in response to the high winds and low humidity forecasted for Thursday.

Other than Bexar County, the warning will also be in effect for San Antonio-area counties like Kerr, Bandera, Kendall, Blanco, Uvalde, Medina, Comal, Atascosa, and others from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.Texas sheriff's deputy shoots a rattlesnake while investigating a stolen vehicle The National Weather Service said the area will see northwest winds up to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Thursday's humidity will drop to as low as 9 percent.

Because the severe weather earlier in the week didn't produce as much precipitation as meteorologists anticipated, the combination of wind, dry air and drought conditions could cause explosive and rapid fire growth on Thursday, the NWS said. Additional red flag warnings are possible throughout the weekend as the dry air remains in the region. The winds will die down slightly on Friday but pick back up again Saturday through Tuesday as low humidity remains through the weekend. Meteorologists said they don't expect moisture to return until Monday or Tuesday.
