Today marks precisely 20 years since the Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age rocked up at Glasgow Green in the sweltering sunshine for the inaugural Big Day Out.
- which superseded the annual Gig On the Green concerts - saw some of the biggest acts on the planet take to Glasgow's east end.
Headliners the Chili Peppers were at the very peak of their powers at the time. The previous year had seen the American rock giants go double platinum in the US with their eighth studio album By the Way. That summer, as many will no doubt remember, was one of the hottest on record and music fans had to stay smart to avoid the threat of dehydration from too much booze and not enough water.
