Driver 'used his car as a weapon' in incident which killed 22-year-old, jury hears

Rebecca Steer, 22, died in Oswestry, Shropshire, after being hit and dragged underneath the Volvo, in the early hours of 9 October last year. Opening the trial, prosecutor Kevin Hegarty KC said Mr McHugh had been driving a gold-coloured Volvo in Willow Street at about 02:45 BST. Mr Hegarty said: "All of a sudden, as she was crossing, the Volvo shot backwards. It narrowly missed her."Jurors were told Ms Steer managed to get out of the way of the car and made her way to the pavement on the opposite side of Willow Street.
