Why would the word “banned” be used when that is not the action that is being taken?
“Pennsylvania has the dubious distinction of having the third most banned books in the nation, behind Texas and Florida.”
Except no book is banned. It may not be on a particular library shelf for reasons that Nancy Eshelman may not agree with. But, as she says, “No one is forcing kids to read these books.” That is comforting. Some of these books are not actually literature. They do not represent positive learning for children. The school districts sound like they are being responsible and that they are providing a proper educational environment.
