New figures have revealed that the rate of electricty theft crimes in Lancashire have increased dramatically over the past decade.
Electricity theft is when meters are tampered with or bypassed to avoid paying charges, and the National Police Chiefs’ Council has confirmed the issue is “a growing problem”.
For example, a survey of 150 electricians by insurance company Direct Line found more than a third had been asked by clients about illegally tampering with meters during the past year.
