Passing a Sun Microsystems monolith—a nod to the campus’s history—the coders from 42 stroll to Jasper Potts’s wild workshop. “Augmented reality finally gives you X-ray style perspective that kids around the world reading comic books have dreamed of, to see the inner workings of a machine,” Potts says. The AR display will animate along with the miniature factory. “If you come in close, you can see right inside the machine,” he says. “As you click on each of the pieces, you will have a panel showing you the exact speed the motors are running, how hot the laser is, how many hours it’s been running—all the live data.
