The nine-time All-Pro linebacker out of Colony High in Ontario had signed a five-year, $50 million deal with the Rams last March.

As successful as it was, the Bobby Wagner experiment lasted just one season in Los Angeles.

The Rams and the nine-time All-Pro linebacker mutually agreed to part ways Thursday, less than a year after the former Colony High star had signed a five-year, $50 million deal. By releasing Wagner, the Rams gain much-needed salary-cap relief while also allowing him to become a free agent and possibly play for a contender. According to Over The Cap, the Rams are more than $14 million above the salary cap.

Wagner, 32, played all 17 games during the Rams’ dismal 5-12 season. He totaled 140 tackles, six sacks, 10 tackles for loss and two interceptions. One of those interception came against Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson after they spent 10 seasons as teammates with the Seattle Seahawks.
