Andy Layton was raced 60 miles from the air force's Lossiemouth base to Aberdeen after the sudden haemorrhage.
An RAF technician was rushed to hospital in Aberdeen after suffering a shock brain haemorrhage when his wife was three months pregnant. Andy Layton was rushed 60 miles from the air force's Lossiemouth base to the Granite City to be treated and was left unable to walk, talk, or swallow properly.
As well as this, the Laytons have been helped through their life-altering challenges by the RAF Benevolent Fund, which gives financial and emotional support to current and former servicemen and their families. Helen's brother, Jonathon Earnshaw, has hailed the fund as a "beacon of light" and is in the midst of a mammoth triathlon challenge to raise funds for the charity.
"The ambulance had to travel 60 miles, and the bleed was in a very difficult part of the brain to access. It was very close to the brain stem."
