Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 - Turbocharged is a fun entry point to arcade-style racing for newcomers to the genre, although it lacks depth and longevity.
Quick Links Hot Wheels has been a part of the video game landscape since the 1980s, and these games have often helped give fans of the toy cars a chance to see their imaginations come to life. Most recently, Hot Wheels Unleashed took the franchise into gaming, and now developer Milestone is back with Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 - Turbocharged. As such, fans may well be expecting a step up from the previous entry.
The game maintains this peak when it sticks closest to the Hot Wheels brand as a whole, such as when zooming along the trademark orange speed track, going around loop-the-loops, or leaning into the scale of miniature cars in a regular-sized world. However, in those moments where it drifts into new territory, such as sections where the player is driving outside, on grass or tarmac, it feels a little less exciting.
There are some issues though, and firstly the lack of ambition is quite obvious. Creature Rampage takes the player across a variety of biomes, from forests to mountains to cities, but this never really translates into the actual races, which instead constantly return to the same few environments of arcades or back yards. It’s not a major issue, but it feels a little disappointing given that the Hot Wheels DLC for Forza Horizon 5 managed to bring this variety.
