In The Athletic’s 2023 NFL QB Tiers, Daniel Jones came in as a Tier 3 QB and ranked No. 19 overall out of 30. Do the Giants feel like he's getting enough respect? 'He definitely doesn’t worry about that.' charlottecrrll has more on Jones' progress:
“I love the way he took care of the ball,” a head coach said of Jones, who led the Giants to their first playoff victory since 2012. “That was the No. 1 thing he improved. I don’t know if his arm will ever elevate those around him, but when you are a big man that has athleticism and takes care of the ball, you are going to give yourself a chance.”
For those voters still skeptical of Jones, Daboll’s prowess as a coach and system creator seemed to play a significant role. “He’s a function of the offense,” a defensive coordinator said of Jones. “I don’t think from an arm standpoint he does a whole lot that is going to scare you, but his speed does. And I do think Brian Daboll protects his quarterbacks, even Josh Allen, by giving them very predictable throws, successful throws, easy throws to skill players who can go make a play. And then he takes his shots.”
Daboll was asked recently about the similarities in the leap that Allen made in his second year with Daboll as Jones is about to enter Year 2 in the coach’s system. “I understand the question,” Daboll said. “I would say that every guy is different. He’s in his second year, and we have added some new pieces; we’re trying a lot of different things out. Time will tell.”
