Ben Field, 29, preyed upon Peter Farquhar by posing as his lover.
A "psychopath" who killed a retired Scots teacher after pretending to be his lover has been forced to pay £124,000 to his victims families.
He used money from the inheritance to buy a flat in Towcester, Northamptonshire, before he went on to drug and suffocate his 69-year-old victim - creating the impression he had died by mixing alcohol with his sleeping medication. Field also targeted Mr Farquhar's 81-year-old neighbour, Ann Moore-Martin and convinced her to change her will to leave him with £30,000.
After changing her will to leave him tens of thousands Ms Moore-Martin told her niece about her relationship with Field while in hospital after suffering a seizure. A subsequent police investigation discovered the link between the three people and exhumed Mr Farquar's body for a second post-mortem, after which Field was arrested. Field was jailed for at least 36-years at Oxford Crown Court for Mr Farquhar's murder in 2015.
The judge in his trial said he demonstrated: “Grandiosity, a sense of superiority towards others, the exploitation of others to achieve personal gain, the need to belittle and humiliate others, fixation on fantasies of power and success, intelligence, a need for admiration from others, and a sense of entitlement together with an unwillingness to empathise with the feelings, needs and wishes of others.
