This moment caused uproar
There was a moment of great controversy at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in September 2019 when a professional boxer brutally KOd a young amateur.
Since the 2016 Olympics, pros have been allowed to enter some competitions which traditionally belonged to amateurs and this has led to ongoing arguments over safety, with headguards also removed. This debate intensified following the super-heavyweight World Championship quarter-finals. In 2019, Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov was 6-0 as a rising professional and scored a massive KO of highly-touted American starlet Richard Torrez, who was still an amateur at the time.He later confirmed he was okay with aThe incident provoked two different reactions with some furious at the pro/amateur contest and others defending it.
If Torrez would’ve turned pro this year already he would’ve got a great deal. Instead got brutally KO’d by a pro fighter, stock goes way down. The Jalolov of 3 years ago without pro experience a lot less likely to have done that. Olympic dream not what it used to be! Sad!
