"We want to connect to our audience on a deeper level and would like them to understand a side of our culture that is often times not seen," Qu says."We hope to shed light on the internal family struggle where new ideas come face to face with old traditions and the struggle of growing up with assimilating into the American culture outside of the traditional Chinese values.

"It means the history of our family. We take family portraits only a few times in our lives. We dress up nice and feeling little awkward but special and precious. I remember that I didn't like taking family portraits with my parents and my younger sister when I was a kid because I didn't like my new hair style or had a big fight with my sister or something.

We took a family portrait two years ago when Phillip was 3 years old. It was taken by our family friend who is a photographer and a gift from him. Very special!"
