King Charles participated in a lavish investiture ceremony in 1969, which proved controversial with the people of Wales
as well as the expense of such an event at a time when the British economy is struggling.
During the ceremony, which was broadcast to 19 million people, the Queen placed a specially designed coronet on Charles’s head as he pledged allegiance to her. He added that there “are far more important things that we should concentrate our minds on rather than whether Wales has a constitutionally redundant Prince or not”, such as the“Personally, whether there’s an investiture or not makes no difference – we don’t need royalty, Welsh or English: there are far more urgent priorities to spend money on,” he added.Magazine, said it came as “no surprise” that William was not planning to have an investiture ceremony “given the economic state of the nation”.
