The magical and vibrant festival returns in September
This year's Encounter Festival promises a programme of event brimming with an eclectic mix music, arts and entertainment. The Preston-based family-friendly event celebrates Lancashire's cultural diversity and artistic talents.
When is Encounter Festival 2023? The festival is held from Friday, September 15 to Sunday, 17 September. It kicks off on Friday evening and takes place at various locations across the city. Dancing takes centre stage for parts of Saturday, with workshops and sessions hosted by Salsa Northwest , Dance charity Dance Syndrome and Swati Dance Company all on offer at The Met.
The extravaganza of music and dance will weave through Preston to the finale where a free fireworks display will signal the end to Saturday's festivities.The festival moves to Winckley Square on Sunday, with events centred around the urban park. There will be food stalls and visitors are also encouraged to bring their own picnic.
Sunday will also see a rousing performance by The Giant Wheel, which explores the lives of people from different cultures and how they come together.What is Encounter Festival? Preston City Council put on its first Encounter Festival in 2015 as a pilot and it has gradually grown into the city-wide festival we see today. The pilot saw an estimated 20,000 visitors.
