Heavy rain and strong winds could impact parts of the Northeast early this week from a potential nor'easter. Forecast:
At a GlanceHeavy rainfall could trigger flooding in some areas.A potential nor'easter could bring flooding rainfall and strong winds to parts of the Northeast as the week begins.
An upper-level system will track into the Northeast with an area of low pressure on Monday. This disturbance will help trigger the formation of an intensifying low-pressure system near or off the East Coast Monday night through Tuesday. Rainfall from this setup will spread into the Northeast beginning Monday and could last in some areas into Wednesday. The greatest chance for stronger winds will be Tuesday into Wednesday.
There is still some uncertainty in the exact track and intensity of this storm, which will play a role in what areas see the heaviest rain and stronger winds. It's also possible the low intensifies enough to be deemed a bomb cyclone — a term for a low-pressure system whose central pressure plunges by at least 24 millibars in 24 hours or less.
