Premiered October 12 on Paramount+, the new iteration of Frasier features the return of Kelsey Grammer's psychiatrist Frasier Crane, who was first introduced 40 years ago in Cheers season 3 and received his own eponymous spin-off once it ended in 1993.
During an interview with Variety in honor of the Frasier reboot release date on Paramount+, Harris and Cristalli addressed the possibility of Cheers cameos in the revival. The creators are hesitant about heading too far down memory lane, though Cristalli says he "would love to see Norm and Sam." Read their full comments below:
Harris: We’re sort of conscious about not seeming like we’re just trying to grab anything from the past and cram it into our show just as a way to get people to cheer or or get people to watch. Frasier has mixed feelings about returning to Boston. He’s there for his son. And he knows he has some unfinished business there.”Cristalli: It is a little bit by design that he hasn’t mentioned it or gone back there. He’s not ready. He left Boston with his tail between his legs.
Every Cheers Character Who Returned In Frasier Frasier, which ran originally from 1993 to 2004, does have a long history of bringing back characters from its parent show, Cheers. Sam , the owner of the bar, returned in Frasier season 2 to seek advice from the titular psychiatrist about his new fiancée, Sheila . Woody , a bartender, returned in Frasier season 4 to discover that, outside the bar, he and the psychiatrist have little in common.
