The patent documents detail how a future temperature sensor inside a Fitbit watch will work, to improve reliability and open up new features.
Its aim is to dramatically increase the reliability of temperature readings, by accounting for changes in the ambient temperature.
“Methods, systems and devices are needed to distinguish skin temperature changes that are physiologically induced from skin temperature changes that are environmentally induced,” the document reads. The use of one temperature sensor rather than two would be more interesting, suggesting it would actually move closer to, and further away from, the wearer’s arm to take the two temperature readings. Does that seem practical? Not really. There’s not a whole lot of space to play with inside these watches for one thing.to the Fitbit Sense 2, to check for changes. However, increased reliability would let Fitbit make more specific ambitious use of the temperature data.
It can also be worked into other areas of wearable stats, such as stress readings and in calculating how ready someone is for a hard workout.
