The Leader of Nottingham City Council has also said he feels 'hard done by' in relation to the Broadmarsh project
Nottingham's leader says housing is a must for Broadmarsh given the "really popular" nature of city centre living after a housing agency gave a £200,000 boost to the project. Although work on demolishing the remaining half of the former shopping centre has stalled, progress continues on developing other elements of the Broadmarsh project.
Nottingham City Council will also be providing £200,000 to the business case development effort and David Mellen, the Labour leader of the authority, said on the subject of housing: "I believe that Broadmarsh needs to have some places for people to live. City centre living is really, really popular, we need to do that, but we also need people to invest in that."The Homes England funding will be used on consultants with expertise in property, finance and economic regeneration.
"We've applied twice to the Government's Levelling Up Fund and you would have thought that a construction and development site of that size, which is very rare, in the eighth-poorest authority area in the country would be a prime site for levelling up.
