Rishi Sunak appears to be"pulling up" the Tories in the polls, while Boris Johnson remains a"serious negative" for most voters, according to an elections expert. "He is a serious negative for most people," he said."People have moved away from Boris in numbers. Boris's polling is far worse than is the case for Rishi."
The prime minister's official spokesman rejected suggestions that the DUP had been misled over the operation of the Stormont brake - part of the framwork which gives the UK a veto over the imposition of new EU rules in Northern Ireland. Home Secretary Suella Braverman responded by saying people making such analogies have"already lost the argument".
He called the policy"immeasurably cruel", and said the language used by the government was not"dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s". Sinn Fein Stormont leader Michelle O'Neill has said the Windsor Framework is done, and the onus is now on the governments and parties to get devolved government in Northern Ireland back up and running."The Brexit Joint Committee meets 24 March to adopt the deal into EU law and we move onto implementation stage.
The protocol, as originally agreed, required Northern Ireland to stay aligned with EU law in a range of areas including agriculture, the environment, product regulation and VAT after Brexit. The brake would allow a minority of MLAs at Stormont to formally flag concerns about the imposition of new EU laws in Northern Ireland - a move that could see the UK government veto their introduction in the region.
The home secretary pointed out she had been busy in Rwanda this weekend expanding an agreement to deport illegal migrants there while her Labour counterpart had been spending time on Twitter.
