Steve Baker's decision to call for the prime minister to resign leaves the total number of Tory MPs questioning Boris Johnson's leadership looking like this:refuse to back him to lead the party into the next electionThe Met Police have told Sky News they will not issue any further updates on the partygate investigation before the May local elections.

It’s a big moment and a surprise, until now Mr Baker was sticking by the PM despite fellow rebel Mark Harper calling for Mr Johnson to go earlier in the week. Anyone who thought he would stick with Boris Johnson because of his record on Brexit was today proved wrong, he said the PM will live with his"thanks forever" but"should be long gone." "I've been tempted to forgive. I have to say now that the possibility of that really, for me, has gone," he says.

Mr Baker says he does not seek to condone or defend what has happened, but mentions the possibility that people can, in time, forgive it.William Wragg, who has been unusually quiet the last couple of weeks, today re-affirmed his anger over partygate, calling it"utterly depressing to be asked to defend the indefensible".

As you can see in this screenshot, Deputy Chief Whip Chris Pincher told them Boris Johnson had decided it was for the House of Commons to decide whether he should be investigated for misleading parliament. Sir Ed Davey says Boris Johnson has"taken the British people for granted" with his actions over partygate. They"could have kicked him out months ago", Sir Ed claims, accusing them of"ducking their responsibility".
